
The Syro-Malankara Catholic Suvisesha Sangam
“Go into the entire world and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation”(Mk.16:15, Mt.28:19). This is the missionary mandate of Jesus to the Apostles andthe Church. Preaching the Gospel, therefore, is the prime duty of the Church. It isthe greatest need of the time to prepare the faithful to give witness to Jesus Christ bypreaching the Gospel with a burning zeal in the Spirit. By virtue of baptism everyChristian is called to holiness and mission. The Servant of God, Archbishop MarIvanios reminds us: “The most important duty of Christianity is the spreading of theGospel”Suvisesha Sangam (Gospel Ministry Team) was formed in the Syro-MalankaraCatholic Church in January 2012 based on the decision of the Holy Synod of theSyro-Malankara Catholic Church in view of the first Major Archi-Eparchial Assemblyheld at Trivandrum in 2011 It is our experience that the Holy Spirit has been guidingthe ministry of Suvisesha Sangam for the last eight years. 986 members completedthe formation programme of Suvisesha Sangam and received Kaivaipu (laying ofhand by the Bishop) till now. They are doing various ministries in the Church.The Syro-Malankara Catholic Suvisesha Sangam is holiness movement or a renewalmovement based on the spirituality of the Malankara Catholic Church to proclaim,celebrate and to live the Good News. First of all, It is basically a call of the Holy spiritto be a member of the Suvisesha Sangam. Secondly, It is a call to holiness of JesusChrist. Thirdly, it is a call to live the spirituality of the Syro Malankara Catholic Churchin its pure form. Fourthly, It is a call for one’s Own renewal and sanctification. Fifthly,it is a Call to undertake the Evangelical service. The members of the SuviseshaSangam should follow 25 spiritual way of life based on the spirituality of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church : 1 Liturgy of the hour, 2 Sacraments especially HolyQurbono and confession, 3 Lent, abstinence and fasting, 4 Bible reading, meditationand prayer, 5 Spirituality based on self sanctification and life of witnessing.
Suvisesha Sangam Training- UK
The first phase of the training session for the Suvisesha Sangam held on 14 th to 16thFebruary 2010 at London. Rev. Fr. Anthony Kakkanat, the director of the SuviseshaSangham led the sessions. Rev.Fr.Thomas Madukamoottil inaugurated the threedays training programme.This formation programme includes various classes like spiritual awakening classesand meditations, Bible courses, Liturgical studies, dogmatic studies, moral studies,Preaching ministry, Church history and relevant subjects. In every gatheringconfession and Holy Qurbono will be arranged. Those who completed the formationwill receive Kaivaip by the Head of the Church Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemisor the concerned bishop.
